Russian Free Practice One outing for Jolyon at scene of GP2 triumph

Jolyon Palmer will drive in Friday's (October 9) Free Practice One session ahead of this weekend's Russian Grand Prix in Sochi, as part of his role as Lotus F1 Team's Third and Reserve Driver. The 24-year-old will return to the track where he claimed victory in last year's GP2 Series feature race, and along with it the 2014 title.

The Southwater racer will be making his 10th Free Practice One outing of 2015, as he gets behind the wheel of the E23 Hybrid on the 3.634-mile Grand Prix circuit at the Sochi Autodrom. Jolyon's last appearance in the opening 90-minute session of the Grand Prix weekend was curtailed due to weather, and he was only able to complete one installation lap at Suzuka ahead of the Japanese Grand Prix.

SochiSat_X0W2190.jpgSochi holds good memories for Jolyon as he clinched the 2014 GP2 Series title at the circuit last year. Starting fourth in the feature race, he soon took second before pitting to switch tyres after the safety car was deployed. Jolyon then set about carving his way through the field and he took the lead shortly before the end of the race, to claim the win and the championship.

In addition to his on-track duties, Jolyon will be commentating on Sunday's Grand Prix for BBC Radio 5 Live alongside James Allen.

Jolyon will compete in further FP1 sessions in the remaining rounds of the 2015 season, which will be confirmed at a later date.

Free Practice One in Russia will begin at 08:00 UK time on October 9. You can follow all the action on Sky Sports F1 channel from 07:45 and with updates on Jolyon's official website.
