Jolyon to face MotoGP world champion Jorge Lorenzo in ROC Nations Cup

Jolyon Palmer will face off against the newly-crowned MotoGP world champion Jorge Lorenzo in next Friday's (November 20) Race Of Champions Nations Cup first round, after the draw for the event was made this morning (November 10). The Lotus F1 Team Third and Reserve Driver will join up with 2015 DTM Champion Pascal Wehrlein for Team Young Stars, and the duo will take on Team All Stars, with Wehrlein competing against Jolyon's current team-mate at Lotus F1 Team, Romain Grosjean.

If the pair progress through the opening round of the Friday night event, they will face off against the winner of Team England 1 vs. Team Brazil, with Jolyon set to take on two-time British Touring Car Champion Jason Plato or Felipe Massa, who narrowly missed out on the Formula One World Championship in 2008.

The Race of Champions Nations Cup will pit a total of 20 drivers in 10 teams against each other, with each match being a best-of-three, with the two winning drivers from the first two heats racing in an additional round if required. Other intriguing ties thrown up by the Nations Cup draw include Team Germany taking on Team Australia, which sees former Red Bull Racing team-mate Sebastian Vettel and Daniel Ricciardo go head-to-head.

This will mark the second year in a row that Jolyon and Wehrlein have competed together for Team Young Stars, as the pair were unfortunate to not progress from the group stage, with Jolyon claiming victory over 2014 European F3 Champion Esteban Ocon, before close defeats to nine-time Le Mans Champion Tom Kristensen and former NASCAR driver Robby Gordon.

Following the Nations Cup on Friday night, Jolyon will also compete in the Race Of Champions itself, where drivers battle flat-out for individual glory to be crowned as 'Champion of Champions'. The draw for the Race of Champions will be made in the coming days.
