Limited running for Jolyon in disrupted Hungary FP1

Jolyon was unable to complete any meaningful running in Friday's (24 July) Free Practice One at Hungary.

Jolyon completed his first installation lap of the circuit 30 minutes into the session, without setting a time. He returned to the pits with just under one hour left in Free Practice One.

Jolyon headed back out on track for his first timed run with six minutes of the session remaining, but was forced to pit when Kimi Raikkonen's front wing disintegrated at turn 12, causing a red flag. The session was restarted with less than a minute on the clock and Jolyon rejoined the track for one more untimed lap.

A heavy crash for Sergio Perez earlier in the session had previously caused a 15 minute delay.

Championship leader Lewis Hamilton led a Mercedes one-two as he topped the timesheets with a lap time of 1m25.141s. His team-mate Nico Rosberg was just 0.109s slower in second with the Ferrari of Kimi Raikkonen finishing the 90-minute session third quickest.

Jolyon said: "That wasn't the fullest FP1 session I've participated in and of course it was frustrating to be all ready to go but these things happen. I think the team is reasonably well placed for the weekend and the car looked quite good on track during the afternoon. It's very hot here in Budapest so that could mix things up a bit tomorrow in qualifying and on Sunday for the race."

Alan Permane, Trackside Operations Director of Lotus F1 Team, said: "Jolyon's session was significantly compromised today, but as always he did everything we asked of him. The Hungaroring can be a tricky circuit, especially in FP1 so Jolyon's short time in the car still enabled us to collect useful data and enabled him to give us valuable feedback for the rest of the weekend."
