Palmer focuses on data-gathering during Lotus F1 Team debut

Jolyon Palmer's debut today for Lotus F1 Team, in the official pre-season Formula One test in Barcelona, has focussed during the morning session on data gathering and development rather than gunning for a best lap time.

The 24-year-old GP2 Champion initially took to the track to carry out installation and aero runs for the team, with complex airflow measuring equipment attached to the car. After this equipment was removed from the Lotus E23 and other measuring equipment installed, Jolyon returned to the track to complete a total of 31 laps before the lunch break. His fastest lap time at this stage was 1m28.128s.

Fastest during the morning session were Red Bull Racing's Daniel Ricciardo (1m24.574s) and Ferrari's  Kimi Raikkonen (1m 24.584s), both on the softer of Pirelli's tyre compounds.

Palmer will continue driving in the afternoon session.
