Jolyon wows crowd with F1 display at Brands Hatch

Jolyon Palmer got behind the wheel of an historic Grand Prix-winning Lotus 72 E-5 at Brands Hatch yesterday (Monday 27 April) as Lotus F1 Team visited Brands Hatch for a special filming event. Admission was free to the public all day and a large number of spectators took the opportunity to see both classic and modern Formula One cars at the Kent venue, with Romain Grosjean and Pastor Maldonado, the team's 2015 race drivers, also present.

Palmer took to the track for a Sky Sports F1 feature alongside Maldonado, who drove the E23 Hybrid, the team's 2015 car, as fans were treated to side-by-side action that crossed the generational divide. The crowd also got a rare opportunity to get up close to the Formula One cars and drivers during an impromptu pit-lane walkabout, with Jolyon taking the time to pose for pictures and sign autographs for a large number of spectators.

Frenchman Grosjean drove the 2015 car for the majority of the morning's running as he participated in on-board filming and tracking shots, before the Enstone-based team simulated a number of full speed racing pit-stops. Maldonado was in the cockpit for the afternoon, continuing the filming work whilst special guests enjoyed hot laps in road-going Lotus cars.

Jolyon commented: "It was a great day. It was awesome to see Formula One cars around Brands Hatch and it was great to see the crowd here too. This is my favourite track in the world and it is handy that it happens to be my local track. To come back here in an official capacity with Lotus F1 Team is really special. From a personal point of view, it was fantastic to drive the Lotus 72 around my home circuit."
