Jolyon Palmer receives Sparco GP2 Award

Jolyon Palmer is the first winner of the Sparco GP2 Award. Decided by a jury of motorsport journalists, the award ran for the European part of the GP2 season, starting at Monaco in May and ending 12 races later at Spa Francorchamps in Belgium in August.

The jury voted at each race weekend for their top GP2 driver, taking into consideration performances in qualifying, the feature race, and the shorter sprint races. Jolyon received the most votes. He was presented with his trophy in a special presentation in the paddock at Monza, attended by some of the jury as well as representatives from Sparco.

Jolyon commented: "I'm really happy to receive the Sparco GP2 Award. It's been a great year for me so far and it's nice to be acknowledged for my efforts. Thanks to Sparco as well for the award and the brilliant job they're doing in motorsport this year as always. Now I'm focussing on the race weekend at Monza and I'll try to show everyone why I was chosen for this award!"

Sparco CEO Claudio Pastoris commented: "Since Monaco, we have been holding our inaugural GP2 Award with a special jury voting for the most impressive driver each weekend. We have seen a wide variety of drivers named with a number of different names emerging. In the end, though, there can only be one winner.

"We have been building up to this moment all season and while we will support our Sparco drivers right up to Abu Dhabi, we are honoured to announce Sparco-wearer Jolyon Palmer as the first ever Sparco GP2 Award winner. A big thank you to all the journalists who have made up our Sparco GP2 jury this season - and to all the drivers who have contested this season with such competitive, thrilling and entertaining racing."
