GP2 Champion Palmer aims to bow out on a high at Abu Dhabi

Newly-crowned GP2 Champion Jolyon Palmer is aiming to end his GP2 career on a high, by helping his DAMS team secure the Team's Championship at Abu Dhabi's Yas Marina circuit this weekend (21-23 November).

Palmer secured the GP2 drivers' title in the penultimate round at Sochi, Russia in October, with a superb drive to victory in the first race of the weekend, becoming the first British driver to secure the crown since Lewis Hamilton in 2006.

It has been a record breaking year for Palmer, who set the benchmark for most consecutive points finishes in a season (19) and the most points scored in a single season (256). The 23-year-old from Southwater, West Sussex, has also taken four race wins and seven additional podiums on his way to his dominant title success.

To cap an excellent season, his DAMS team needs to score just 27 points in Abu Dhabi to guarantee their title. A total of 78 points are available for a team each weekend, and DAMS would secure the title with a win and a fastest lap in the first race, or with a third and a fourth place.

Palmer commented: "After a long break it's good to be racing again in Abu Dhabi, my last ever race weekend in GP2. Having won the title last time out, the pressure is off for me but DAMS are still aiming to win the Team's Championship this weekend.

"On a personal note I'd like to end my GP2 career with a win and end what has been an unbelievable year in the best possible way."

Full coverage of rounds 21 and 22 of the 2014 GP2 season at Abu Dhabi, including live timing will be available on Jolyon's official website www.jolyonpalmer.com, and TV coverage of all sessions will be available on Sky F1's HD channel. The first practice session gets underway at 07.15am UK time on Friday 21 November.
