Jolyon sixth fastest on final day of Bahrain test

Jolyon Palmer posted the sixth fastest time on the final day of GP2 Series testing at the Bahrain International Circuit today (Friday).

Jolyon had predicted a busy final day for the team, and between himself and team mate Stéphane Richelmi, the DAMS squad totalled 63 laps of the Sakhir circuit during the opening session of the day. Jolyon's best lap was just over three tenths shy of the fastest, set by Jon Lancaster.

For the afternoon the pair concentrated on race runs, completing a further 66 laps. Jolyon headed Stéphane for much of the session, before ending in fifth place. The morning times were quicker, so Jolyon completed the day in sixth overall.

Summing up the day and the test, Jolyon commented: "We focussed on short runs for most of the morning, using both tyre compounds and ended up sixth fastest. I'm happy with the pace though, and I'm sure there's a bit more there to be fighting right at the front.

"We focussed on race performance this afternoon and made some good improvements. Overall I'm very happy with the three days here, we have been competitive all the time and in all of pre season testing we haven't finished a day outside of the top six. This is all positive going into the season, confidence is high and now we need to make sure we put everything together and start the season strongly.

The first round of the 2014 GP2 Series will also take place in Bahrain on 4-6 April. Full coverage will be provided on Jolyon's website.
