Jolyon Palmer continues front row qualifying run in front of home crowd

Jolyon Palmer continued his run of front row qualifying performances in the 2014 GP2 Championship by qualifying second at his home event at Silverstone on Friday. The Southwater-based driver has qualified in the top two at every event this season, and was only denied his third pole position of the season by two hundredths of a second, in clear conditions, at the Northamptonshire circuit.

Jolyon was faster than his rivals through the first sector in the opening stages, with his first lap placing him fourth. His next attempt featured fastest sector times in both the second and third sectors and provisionally placed him at the top of the standings before sliding to second.

Track conditions didn't seem to lend themselves to faster times in the second half of the session, with Jolyon's 1m40.472s effort proving strong enough to remain second.

The GP2 Feature Race takes place tomorrow (Saturday) at 14.40 UK time.

Jolyon commented, "I did a good lap to be P2 and really close to pole. Unfortunately we just missed out again but we have a good chance to fight for the win tomorrow. The weather could be very different so we will have to see what happens. I'm feeling confident whatever the weather though!"
