Palmer fourth in Hungary practice

Jolyon Palmer recorded the fourth quickest time in GP2 practice at the Hungaroring this morning (Friday), in a session that was marked by a bizarre incident involving him and Johnny Cecotto.

Jolyon was on an out-lap and keeping well out of the way at turn two as Cecotto completely misjudged his braking point and slammed into the left-side of Palmer's car, flying into the air over Jolyon's left-front wheel and damaging both their cars. Cecotto was later penalised with a three place grid penalty for tomorrow's Feature Race.

After frantic repairs, Jolyon was able to rejoin the session for a handful of exploratory laps, having earlier set the fourth-fastest time.

Jolyon commented: "It wasn't the easiest of practice sessions. I ended up fourth with a few balance issues early on but my session was cut short when Cecotto crashed into the side of me as I was letting him past.

"Having seen him in my mirrors, I left pretty much the whole width of the track but he locked up and we had large contact. I could get back out for some practice starts but couldn't do any meaningful running. Qualifying will be harder as a result but I'll push hard for pole as always."
