Jolyon Palmer charges to tenth after another overtaking masterclass

Jolyon Palmer stormed from 22nd on the grid to take a fine tenth position in this morning's GP2 Sprint Race at Monza.

The race started in clear conditions and Jolyon began making up ground immediately, coming out of the first corner in 20th position. By the end of the opening lap he found himself in 17th and that was the beginning of a race-long charge towards the top ten. By the end of the following tour he was 16th and he gained yet another spot on lap three to cross the line in 15th position.

On the fifth lap of the race, Jolyon overtook both Stefano Coletti and Jon Lancaster, an act which was swiftly followed by one of the finest overtaking manoeuvres of the race. Jolyon closed down on fellow Carlin driver Felipe Nasr and gained a further two places as the team mates entered Parabolica four abreast alongside Coletti and Sergio Canamasas.

Jolyon surged past Victor Ghirelli at the start of lap 11 to take tenth place, a position he would hold until the end of the race.

Speaking after the race, Jolyon commented, "I had a good race, coming through from 22nd to finish tenth. Unfortunately after yesterday we were forced to use the worn option tyres from qualifying as the wheel that fell off yesterday was too damaged. I think we did about as much as possible and were strong all weekend but in the end it's just one moment that's cost us. Now we need to focus on Singapore where both Carlin and myself were quick last year".
