Jolyon P13 in Abu Dhabi free practice

Jolyon Palmer set the 13th fastest time in the final GP2 free practice session of the year at Abu Dhabi's Yas Marina Circuit this morning (Friday 1 November).

The 22-year-old's first effort put him fastest, 0.3s clear of the field, with a time of 1m52.949s. The two Russian Time cars of Sam Bird and Tom Dillmann usurped him but Jolyon remained in third place after 10 minutes of the session.

His third attempt saw him improve his time to a 1m52.852s, and he then pitted for fresh tyres while sitting sixth fastest with 11 minutes of the session remaining. He re-emerged with six minutes remaining and with less than 60 seconds on the clock, improved his time by a fraction with a 1m52.822s.

Speaking after the session, Jolyon commented; "I was struggling with a huge amount of oversteer from the start. We improved it in the stop but I think I had killed the rear tyres too much in the first run to improve the lap time by much. We will look into it now and try to improve it for qualifying."

Qualifying will take place at 3PM UK time, with Jolyon aiming to replicate his Singapore pole position.
