Jolyon Palmer set the sixth fastest overall time in today's (Tuesday) first day of GP2 post-season testing at Abu Dhabi's Yas Marina Circuit.

Driving for Spanish outfit Racing Engineering, the team with which Fabio Leimer secured the 2013 GP2 Driver's Championship, Jolyon completed 49 laps of the circuit over the two sessions, with a best time of 1m50.238s in the evening session, during which he was fifth fastest.

He improved his lap time by over 1.7 seconds from the morning session on his first appearance for the team. The 22-year-old will switch to the DAMS team for tomorrow's second day of testing.

Speaking afterwards, Jolyon said: "I had a good day testing with Racing Engineering. We had a bit of an issue this morning but then we worked well this afternoon. I ended up very comfortable with both the car and the team and we also did a very strong long run. Tomorrow I'm looking forward to driving for DAMS."
