Jolyon Palmer targets big points haul at Barcelona

Southwater-based driver Jolyon Palmer is confident of closing down the points gap to the GP2 championship leaders during rounds five and six of the championship in Barcelona this weekend (10-12 May).

The 22-year-old, who drives for the Carlin team in the F1 feeder series, secured two strong points finishes last time out in Bahrain. A fighting drive in race one, including a fantastic start, saw Jolyon move up from 12th on the grid to finish fifth, demonstrating the same overtaking prowess that saw him gain 32 positions after mechanical issues struck in Malaysia, the previous event.

He followed that up with a sixth place finish in the second Bahrain race to lie sixth in the championship standings.

Jolyon now heads to Barcelona, where he recorded the fifth fastest time in testing in March, where GP2 will support the Spanish Grand Prix as the European phase of the 2013 season commences.

"I think we are in a good position coming into Barcelona" Jolyon commented. "We were quick there in testing and it's a track I and most of the field know well. Getting up to speed quickly in practice will be important as I feel this has cost us a bit in the first two rounds. I'm hoping for two good points finishes and to make up some ground on the guys at the front of the championship."

Full coverage of rounds five and six of the 2013 GP2 season at Barcelona, including live timing, will be available on Jolyon's official website www.jolyonpalmer.com, while live TV coverage of all sessions will be available on Sky's F1 HD Channel. The first practice session gets underway at 11am (UK time) on Friday 10 May.
