Jolyon Palmer sets sights on Monaco GP2 victory repeat this weekend

Southwater racer Jolyon Palmer heads to the iconic streets of Monaco this weekend (23-25 May) intending to repeat his performance from last year's staging of the F1 feeder series.

The 22-year-old, who drives for the Carlin team, claimed his first GP2 victory on the legendary Monaco street circuit last year. Jolyon made a superb start in the sprint race from third on the grid and went on to dominate the race, claiming a dream victory ahead of Max Chilton and Giedo van der Garde, both of whom have now graduated to F1.

A year on, Jolyon lies sixth in the championship standings, having finished inside the top-10 in every race this year. He recorded a double points finish at Barcelona last time out, though was stripped of a podium finish in race one after a contentious stewards decision. He fought back strongly in race two, surging from 10th on the grid to finish fourth, again demonstrating the excellent race craft that has seen him gain over 55 places in the races so far this season.

Speaking before the weekend Jolyon commented: "Monaco is a really special place to drive and my favourite weekend on the calendar. Having good pace in qualifying will be crucial as overtaking is difficult, but I'm confident in my own pace round there so it is shaping up to be a good weekend. Hopefully I can repeat my 2012 performance and take another victory!"

Full coverage of rounds seven and eight of the 2013 GP2 season at Monaco, including live timing, will be available on Jolyon's official website www.jolyonpalmer.com, while TV coverage of all sessions will be available on Sky F1's HD Channel. The first practice session gets underway at 11am (UK time) on Thursday 23 May.
