Jolyon forced into first corner retirement in Monaco GP2 Feature race

Jolyon Palmer was forced to retire from the Monaco GP2 Feature race today (Friday 24 May), having been innocently caught up in a multi-car collision at the first corner.

Jolyon made a good start from sixth on the grid to be challenging for fifth at the first corner. However in front of him there was chaos when pole sitter Johnny Cecotto out-braked himself and hit the barrier at St Devote.

With Kevin Ceccon cutting the corner to miss the unfolding drama, Jolyon was forced to take avoiding action and was spun round and hit from behind by the Racing Engineering car of Julian Leal. Jolyon's damaged car was left broadside across the track and unable to resume. The race was red flagged while the first corner incident was cleared, but the damage to Jolyon's car was such that he was unable to make the restart.

Only 17 cars were able to take the restarted race which was won by Russian Time's Sam Bird.
