Palmer to start 11th for Barcelona feature race

Jolyon Palmer will start in 11th place for tomorrow's GP2 feature race at Barcelona after a closely fought qualifying session this afternoon (Friday 10 May).

With heavy clouds hovering over the Barcelona circuit, there was a rush to get out on track, with all drivers using the soft-compound Pirelli control tyre. Jolyon was one of the first drivers to set a time, running seventh fastest in the first half of the session.

Along with the majority of the runners, Jolyon pitted at the halfway point in the session before returning to the action with 13 minutes remaining.

A handful of drivers were able to make improvements in the latter phase of qualifying on fresh tyres, leaving Jolyon to start 11th for tomorrow's race which starts at 14.40PM UK time.

Jolyon was less than a second off the fastest time, and only half a second away from a second row starting position, with former team mate Marcus Ericsson claiming pole for DAMS.

Speaking afterwards Jolyon commented: "The car felt pretty good but I could only manage 11th. We lost a bit of pace from where we were in practice and now have more work to do tomorrow. The aim now will be to get into the top eight. Tyre degredation will be big so we are looking into strategy options now.

"It's frustrating as its not where we wanted to start but I've shown before that a lot can happen when the racing gets underway."
