Jolyon takes P11 in Nurburgring sprint from 24th on the grid

Jolyon Palmer ended his German weekend with 11th in the Nurburgring GP2 sprint race this morning (Sunday 7 July).

Starting from 24th on the grid, the 22-year old Carlin driver passed four cars on the opening lap, and continued to make progress throughout the race.

He made up another four places on the second lap to lie 16th behind Nathanael Berthon.

The field was bunched back up due to a safety car on lap three, and Jolyon took advantage after the restart, passing Berthon to move up to 15th.

Jolyon was promoted to 13th at the mid point of the race, taking advantage of pit stops from Stefano Coletti and Fabrizio Crestani. Holding 13th for the majority of the second half of the race, Jolyon moved up to 11th on the final lap, passing Julian Leal and Marcus Ericsson.

Speaking afterwards, Jolyon commented: "I started 24th and finished 11th so overall I'm fairly happy. Unfortunately we only had used primes after yesterday so I had to save the tyres all through the race. It's a shame we couldn't fight for points but considering the circumstances I'm not too unhappy with today."
