Jolyon delayed by collision in Spa feature race

A frustrating feature race at Spa-Francorchamps saw Jolyon Palmer take 15th place after being delayed by a collision when team mate Felipe Nasr attempted to lunge down the inside at La Source hairpin.

A good start gained Jolyon a place on the run to La Source and he ran three abreast with Marcus Ericsson and Alexander Rossi down the hill to Eau Rouge. He passed Ericsson up the Hill to Les Combes and completed the opening lap in fifth place.

Ericsson challenged on lap two but Nasr passed the Swede to give his Carlin team mate some breathing space. However just as the race began to settle down, an accident for Daniel de Jong at Eau Rouge brought out the safety car.

Jolyon ran with the leading pack at the restart but entering La Source he was involved after an optimistic move by Nasr, which put the Brazilian out on the spot. Jolyon carried on in 19th place, and began to make up places as the field started to make their stops.

By lap ten Jolyon had made it back into the top ten but unlike much of the field by this stage, needed to make his mandatory pitstop for tyres. Indeed, as race leader Sam Bird made his stop, he rejoined just ahead of Jolyon, who elected to take on a new set of rubber with eight laps remaining.

Rejoining in 18th place but with fresh tyres, Jolyon quickly gained three places before engaging in a late battle with Johnny Cecotto, who had stopped on the same lap. With Bird taking the race victory, Jolyon crossed the line in 15th place.

Jolyon will have another chance to score points in the GP2 Series this weekend, with the sprint race, which takes place at 9:35am tomorrow. Follow all of the action on Jolyon's website.
