Jolyon ends P16 in tricky wet Singapore practice

Jolyon Palmer finished P16 during today's (Friday) tricky wet practice session in Singapore - GP2's first ever outing at the Marina Bay Street Circuit.

A heavy downpour delayed the start of the 30-minute session leaving drivers to face a wet and slippery 5.073km track. After tiptoeing his way round early on, Jolyon's first flying lap was immediately on the pace running in the top 10 as the high humidity levels began to dry the track out in places.

Safety reasons then forced Jolyon to pit due to his rear light not working as the session reached its halfway point. The 21-year-old returned to the track shortly after and was running an impressive P5 in the closing stages but was forced to back out of his final flying lap to leave him P16.

Speaking afterwards Jolyon said: "It was a wet session which was constantly drying. I ended 16th but backed out of my last flying lap which would have put me well inside the top 10. The car felt ok and track is nice to drive so hopefully we have a dry qualifying and we can push the limits harder."

Meanwhile, Esteban Gutierrez topped the timesheets ahead of Fabio Leimer and Stefano Coletti. Jolyon returns to the track at 13:00 (UK time) for today's qualifying session with full coverage on his official website.
