Productive Barcelona test session for Jolyon Palmer

Jolyon Palmer concluded a successful test programme for his iSport team during today's (Wednesday) GP2 test session at the Circuit de Catalunya, showing strong pace in both wet and dry conditions.

After rain affected most of the morning's running, conditions were much improved for the afternoon stint with the track continuing to dry out as the sun did it's best to peek through the clouds. The 21-year-old Brit, who finished 11th overall in this year's main series, was immediately on the pace lying second behind team-mate Pal Varhaug with the majority of drivers now switching to slicks for the first time.

Jolyon remained P2 with one hour left on the clock, this time running just a few tenths off Alexander Rossi in the Caterham. The final 30 minutes though saw the session littered with red flags leading to heavy traffic whenever the green flags were waved with Jolyon ending 13th overall.

Meanwhile, Rossi ended the day on top with Addax's Adrian Quaife-Hobbs in second and Nigel Melker, driving for Racing Engineering, in third.

Speaking afterwards Jolyon said: "We managed to get through some of our program this afternoon and made good progress in areas but unfortunately the amount of red flags meant that everybody's running was limited which was annoying and it prevented me putting in a lap on new tyres this afternoon. Lap times aren't so relevant at these kind of tests though and we can still be pleased with the progress we have made today."

The next GP2 winter test session takes places in Jerez, Spain on 22/23 November.
