Jolyon encouraged by fifth place on final afternoon of GP2 test

Jolyon Palmer has completed the two day GP2 test at the Spanish Jerez circuit today (Friday), with the fifth fastest time of the afternoon. The second day of the test saw Jolyon return to the iSport team that he raced with in his second season in the series, which included a win at the Monaco circuit.

After a tough morning session the afternoon started well, with Jolyon running seventh in the order, however there was a stoppage when Kevin Giovesi suffered a mechanical fault on his Lazarus-prepared car.

Jolyon then enjoyed a more productive end to the test, moving up to fifth place behind Johnny Cecotto, Stéphane Richelmi, Rene Binder and Stefano Coletti.

"It was a very difficult day for us," Jolyon said. "We struggled for pace and we don't really know why. I was happy with my driving and the car had a good balance but I just couldn't find the lap time. We improved for the afternoon and finishing fifth was more encouraging. It's disappointing to end the year like this but now I have to try and find out what went wrong in the morning and pick it up again for next year."
