Palmer targets strong points haul in Barcelona this weekend

Jolyon Palmer is eager to pick up strong results during this weekend's (11-13 May) GP2 rounds in Barcelona, after his last two outings were blighted by a recurring mechanical issue.

The 21-year-old from Southwater was plagued with an intermittent electrical problem in his iSport car during last month's two rounds in Bahrain, causing the engine to cut out at random intervals. When the car was functioning normally the Briton was supremely quick, and he set the overall fastest lap in the Sprint Race last time out in Bahrain. However, both qualifying and races were affected by technical issues, leaving him with a best finish of seventh to show for his efforts over four races in the Arab state.

Now Palmer is hoping to put his mechanical problems behind him at the 4.655km Spanish F1 circuit, where he ran ninth quickest overall during pre-season testing.

"Going into the European season we need to start again," said Jolyon. "After so much bad luck in Asia we now need to put that behind us and start picking up the points our pace has deserved. After doing three days of pre-season testing at Barcelona I know the track well and with the expected high levels of degradation in the races we should be in a strong position."

Full coverage of Jolyon's weekend in Barcelona, including live timing, will be available on his official website www.jolyonpalmer.com. All four GP2 sessions will also be screened live in the UK on the new Sky Sports F1 channel.
