Jolyon Palmer ends disrupted Hockenheim practice in P15

Jolyon Palmer completed a disrupted GP2 practice session at Hockenheim to end P15, as a lengthy stoppage and subsequent shower gave the drivers very little running ahead of this afternoon's qualifying session.

The session started with dark clouds circling the 4.574km German track, and would be Jolyon's first outing at the circuit. The 21-year-old Brit began brightly, setting the fastest time in the opening sector as the field started their first flying laps with conditions remaining dry for the time being.

At the midway point, Jolyon was lying P14 after posting just a handful of laps, nine tenths off the pace set by Davide Valsecchi. However, Giancarlo Serenelli then ran wide exiting the Mobil 1 Kurve and slammed into the barriers on the entry to the Sachskurve, bringing out the red flags. The subsequent stoppage would remove 10 valuable minutes from the session but worse was to come as the predicted rain began to fall.

With just a few minutes remaining, Jolyon returned to the wet track but was unable to improve in the difficult conditions with Valsecchi ending quickest overall ahead of Luiz Razia and Esteban Gutierrez.

Speaking afterwards Jolyon said: "We only got a few laps in the dry before it rained and we had a red flag. I managed to get to grips with the track ok though and got a few laps in in damp conditions as well. We have a bit of time to find for qualifying but I'm confident of an improvement."

Jolyon is next on track at 15:50 (local time) for today's qualifying session with full coverage and live timing available on his official website.
