Jolyon continues impressive testing form at Jerez with fifth quickest

Jolyon Palmer continued his impressive front-running pace during this morning's (Wednesday) second day of GP2 testing in Jerez to go fifth quickest.

After going a superb third fastest overall yesterday, the Brit once again looked confident behind the wheel of his iSport International car, moving to the top of the timesheets 40 minutes into the session and lapping quicker than Davide Valsecchi's best time from yesterday.

As the Spanish sunshine warmed the cold track, Jolyon continued to push before switching from option to the prime Pirelli tyres to go P5 at the halfway stage.

The session was briefly red flagged shortly after when Luiz Razia's Arden car stopped on track with 21-year-old Jolyon lying fifth where he remained until the end of the session.

Speaking afterwards Jolyon said: "That was another good morning, we focussed on short runs again and I did a very competitive lap time on the hard tyres. We then switched to the medium compound for the first time but didn't improve the lap time. Overall to finish P5 is good and hopefully we can find more gains by getting on top of the medium compound. This afternoon we will be focussing only on long runs."

Valsecchi ended the session quickest overall with Esteban Gutierrez second and Max Chilton third. Testing continues this afternoon at 13:00 (UK time) with full coverage on Jolyon's official website.
