Jolyon Palmer targets 2013 GP2 title with Carlin

British racer Jolyon Palmer has signed with Carlin for the 2013 GP2 Series.  The 21 year-old, who is already a race winner in the series, will race alongside Brazilian Felipe Nasr at the British team.

Palmer is aiming for the GP2 title after an impressive campaign in 2012 which included victory at the blue riband Monaco Grand Prix as well as podiums at Silverstone and Monza. He finished 11th in the standings despite a series of electrical issues blighting the first four events.

Carlin is one of the most respected outfits in world motorsport having won multiple titles in championships including British F3 and Formula Renault 3.5. Carlin joined the GP2 Series as recently as 2011 but is already established as one of the leading teams with Max Chilton finishing fourth in the drivers' standings this year. They enjoyed a very successful second half to the 2012 GP2 season with three pole positions and two race wins, including a dominant victory for Chilton at the season finale in Singapore.

Jolyon Palmer said: "I'm very happy to be racing for Carlin in 2013. The team showed good pace this year in their second season in GP2 and they are hungry to build on that next year. My aim is to be fighting for the championship and I'm confident we are in a position to do that."

Racing Director Trevor Carlin added: "Jolyon is a very promising young British driver and we're delighted to be able to welcome him into our GP2 team. He put in some fantastic performances last season and I believe he will be a regular race winner and title contender next year. With Jolyon and Felipe we have an exceptionally talented team, and preparations are already underway for a strong start to the 2013 season."
