Jolyon Palmer made the best of a treacherous Spa-Francorchamps circuit to finish P15 during today's (Friday) rain-soaked GP2 practice session.

Back in action after the summer break, drivers were faced with a sodden Belgian circuit, littered with standing water, as the 30-minute session got underway. Unlike his iSport team-mate Marcus Ericcson, Jolyon opted to go out straight away, tiptoeing his way round to lie P12 at the halfway stage before heading to the pits.

With a slight let-up in the rain, Jolyon was immediately on the pace during his second run to go purple in sector two on his first flying lap, moving up to eighth and showing superb car control in the wet.

Jolyon was set to improve further in the closing stages but was denied the chance as a heavy crash by Johnny Cecotto at Pouhon cut short the session leaving the 21-year-old in 15th place. 

Meanwhile, Fabio Leimer finished on top with Nigel Melker in second and Cecotto third.

Jolyon is next in action later today (15:00, UK time) for the GP2  qualifying session with full coverage, including live timing, on his official website.
