Mechanical failure ruins opening Bahrain practice session for Palmer

Jolyon Palmer had his opening GP2 practice session in Bahrain cruelly cut short when his iSport car suffered an identical electrical issue to that sustained last weekend.

The 21-year-old Brit managed just three laps around the 5.441km circuit until he was forced to pull over at Turn 10 when his electrical issue stopped the car on track, cruelly ending his session.

Speaking afterwards Palmer said: "I had the same problem I had before race one last weekend again. An electrical issue which turns the car off. I managed half a lap which was looking quick but then the car stopped and I couldn't restart. It is ridiculous to have the same problem again and with having a whole Sprint Race in between where the car was working fine. The guys are now frantically trying to find the problem but with only half an hour until qualifying it comprises the whole weekend."

Carlin's Max Chilton finished on top for the session with Davide Valsecchi in second and Luiz Razia in third.

Jolyon is next on track at 09:30 (UK time) for today's qualifying session with full coverage and live timing available on his official website.
