Promising testing debut with Carlin for Palmer to go P11

Jolyon Palmer enjoyed a promising start to his Carlin debut during this morning's (Thursday) GP2 test in Barcelona to end the session 11th quickest.

Today's second day of testing at the 4.655km Spanish circuit saw the 20-year-old Brit running with the British team for the first time following his top 10 finish with Team Barwa Addax yesterday.

Jolyon began the three-hour session brightly running in the midfield before moving his way up to P5 by the mid-way point. With 30 minutes to go Jolyon was running P15 before his session was hampered by two red flags caused first by Antonio Felix Da Costa and then by Rio Haryanto, both stopping on track.

He showed good pace in the final few stages though to move his way up the positions and end 11th fastest against a strong field of drivers.

Speaking afterwards Jolyon said: "This morning has been very productive. We improved the set up quite a lot throughout the morning and I ended up 0.6s off but frustratingly I made a big mistake on my best lap which cost me three tenths. This afternoon we are doing long runs again like yesterday."

Racing Engineering's Fabio Leimer headed the timesheets for the session followed by Sam Bird and Esteban Gutierrez.

The final Barcelona test session gets underway this afternoon with full coverage on official website and Facebook page.
