Palmer claims impressive fourth in season finale

Jolyon Palmer ended his maiden GP2 season on a high with an impressive drive to finish fourth in today's (Sunday) GP2 Finals Sprint race at the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi.

The 20-year-old Brit, who scored a superb podium in Saturday's feature race for Addax, made a solid start and maintained a strong pace throughout the race on the 5.554km circuit, to climb up to a thoroughly deserved fourth at the chequered flag.

Palmer, from Southwater, had to be alert at the start as he sucessfully avoided the slow starting Kevin Ceccon and after a string of fast lap times, he soon found himself involved in a five car battle for second spot. The battle proved to be an intense one, but the Addax driver maintained a strong pace chasing Tom Dillmann while other drivers incurred penalties, and he guided the car home to record his second points finish of the GP2 Finals weekend.

Speaking after the race, a pleased Jolyon said: "At the start I had to avoid Kevin Ceccon in front who didn't get away so I lost a place. Then I was stuck behind Tom Dillmann for most of the race in a group fighting for second. In the end I couldn't work an opportunity to pass and my tyres faded with a few laps to go, but still I am extremely pleased with how this weekend has gone."

Fellow Brit James Calado won the race after holding off experienced GP2 racer Marcus Ericsson and rookie Tom Dillmann, who finished in third narrowly ahead of Palmer.

That marked the final race of Jolyon's GP2 season. Be sure to keep following his official website and Facebook page for all the latest news and information.
