Jolyon Palmer has been stripped of his excellent top 10 finish during the first GP2 race of the weekend at Silverstone following a post-race investigation by the stewards.

After continuing his strong run of form on his home event with 10th place during Saturday's Feature Race, the Brit was subsequently penalised for his part in a mid-race collision with Mexican driver Esteban Guttierrez.

During the course of the overtaking move on lap 18 he touched his adversary, with the stewards ruling that he had gained an unfair advantage. Consequently, they added 30 seconds to his race time, a penalty that pushed him down to 20th position on the grid but did nothing to dilute his spirited performance.

"There was contact between us [Esteban Gutierrez], but I felt it was 50/50 because he turned in on me when I was alongside," said Jolyon. "I have been penalised, though, and that means I'm in for a difficult race tomorrow."

Jolyon is next on track for the GP2 Sprint Race on Sunday at 09:30 (local time) with full coverage on his official website.
