Jolyon: "I'm disappointed, but cancelling Bahrain was the only solution"

Despite suffering the disappointment of the Bahrain GP2 Asia round being cancelled, Jolyon Palmer remains philosophical and admits the decision to terminate the race was the 'only solution available' to organisers.

As one of only three rookies in the current field, and with experience so crucial to success, Jolyon had been targeting gaining further mileage and experience at Bahrain. Despite his frustration however, he insists the safety of everyone involved in GP2 was paramount and it was therefore correct to cancel the event.

"I am extremely disappointed that the races in Bahrain this weekend were cancelled, but obviously in the current circumstances it is the only solution and the correct decision to protect the safety of all involved in GP2," he reflected.

"It is especially a shame for me, as experience is so crucial in this series and with so few rookies on the grid this year the biggest job at the moment is to catch the others up in terms of experience as I am learning something every time I get in the car.

"Hopefully despite the cancellation of this event the series can continue to run in the F1 support event in three weeks time. I hope now that the cancelled round can be rearranged at another time as well, so that I can maximize my track time in the GP2 car before the main series kicks off in May."
