Vasiliauskas continues to progress in F2
FPA star is performing well in Formula One feeder series

Formula Palmer Audi front runner impresses in latest F2 round at Spa-Francorchamps...

Prior to the 2009 season, Kazim Vasiliauskas was a little known driver from Lithuania, but the 18-year-old is quickly becoming a fans' favourite in both Formula Palmer Audi and Formula Two.

Having already established himself as a genuine FPA title contender after scoring a maiden victory on his debut weekend at Brands Hatch, Vasiliauskas has gone on to turn heads in the FIA Formula Two Championship. He impressed on his F2 debut, achieving a podium position in the opening race at Valencia, which he then backed this up with point scoring weekends in both Brno and Spa-Francorchamps. However, Kazim has set his sights even higher as the F2 season progresses. "Last weekend in Spa was not so perfect," he said. "In the first race I started last and finished tenth. On Sunday I started ninth and finished seventh. I was not quick enough to fight with the top guys, but to finish seventh was alright."

The Lithuanian driver has improved his racing knowledge already from time spent in the F2 car and by observing the more experienced members of the field, a sharp learning curve that he is keen to continue. "I have nine points and I am tenth in the championship, which is not so good," he commented. "I am racing with drivers who have three, four, five years experience and I only have one year. On Sunday I raced with Aleshin and he has raced in World Series by Renault - I had to defend and I learnt some new things. Every time I am learning - I don't want to stop, I just want to keep moving forward."

The next two F2 rounds will take place on the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit (17/18/10 July) - a track where Kazim has already experienced success in 2009. "I won at Brands Hatch in Formula Palmer Audi, but of course F2 will be much harder. I am always trying to score podiums, but it is really hard for me as I do not have much experience. I just need to keep scoring points - anywhere from first to eighth is good for me."

Before Kazim can focus on F2, his attention returns to Formula Palmer Audi at Snetterton this weekend for rounds seven and eight of the championship. "I am excited about FPA, as I know the circuit from testing in F2," said Vasiliauskas. "Of course, I want to win the championship but I am not the only one!"
