AFTER ROUND 7
Formula Palmer Audi graduate José Alonso Liste made his
Formula Two debut during testing in Portugal (11 December), which
he followed up with an F2 street demonstration in his home city in
front of an enormous crowd.
The 19-year-old ran well on his maiden F2 run in Portimão,
ending up just over a second off Kazim Vasiliauskas' ultimate pace.
Alonso Liste was a race winner at Silverstone in FPA during 2009,
and his early showing in a Williams JPH1 has left the Spaniard
looking to step up to F2 in 2010.
"It was fantastic to run in the F2 car for the first time," he
said. "I have dreamed of this moment for a long time and I enjoyed
it very much. The day started well - I made progress little by
little and kept improving my times. I was higher in the
classification during the afternoon and we stayed close to the
faster drivers, which was good considering it was my first time in
the car. We still have a lot of work ahead, but I think that I can
obtain some good results in F2 with a lot of work and
effort."
Just two days later José was running the car in his home
city of Lugo, Spain where around 100,000 spectators turned up to
see the F2 car in action. MotorSport Vision Chief Executive
Jonathan Palmer and several members of the Formula Two team were
also present to see hoards of José's fans line the streets
for the historic street demonstration.
"It was incredible that I could show the car to my city," concluded
the Spaniard. "There were 102,000 people there, which was very
important for me. It was quite a fast circuit around the city in
which I could run very comfortably in the car. I did some
doughnuts, some fast starts and hard braking - I think the fans
really liked it. It was an amazing feeling and it was great to have
Jonathan Palmer there - the people were very grateful."
