AFTER ROUND 7
Joachim Holmstoel completed his first ever run in a racing car after enjoying a full test in a Formula Palmer Audi at Bedford Autodrome recently.
Holmstoel spent the day with FPA mechanics and engineers as he acclimatised himself to the 300bhp machine. Although his lap times were not recorded, the engineers confirmed that he made solid progress throughout the session.
"The test went really well," said Joachim. "The power delivery was a real surprise, particularly when the turbo kicked in! It was quite hard initially as it was my first time in a racing car but I picked it up as the test went on, and I was on a similar pace to other guys by the end of the day. I am really looking forward to getting back in the car as I will be more comfortable and will have a greater understanding of how the car reacts."
The youngster, who is currently at school in the south of Spain, is considering his options for a full time graduation to single seater racing - likely to be in 2011. Holmstoel is excited by the prospect of competing in Formula Palmer Audi and believes the series gives drivers a great chance of reaching F1.
"I will probably do some more international karting during the 2010 season," he concluded. "I hope to have a couple of outings in Formula Palmer Audi towards the end of the year. FPA is great value for money and the link with Formula Two is fantastic - if you can win the prize towards a drive in F2 then you are a stepping stone away from Formula One, which is perfect."
The 2010 Formula Palmer Audi Championship costs £59,500 + VAT. For driver enquiries please contact James Gornall, Formula Palmer Audi Championship co-ordinator, on 01234 332439 or james.gornall@formulapalmeraudi.com.
