Maria is the daughter of ex-F1 driver Emilio and the sister of four-time FPA race winner Emilio Jnr.
The 30-year-old spent five seasons racing in Spanish F3 from 2001-2005 before she moved on to the European Ferrari Challenge in 2006. She also made her FIA World Touring Car debut in the same year and returned to the championship in 2007 for another one-off outing with Chevrolet in Valencia. She also raced in selected rounds of the Spanish GT championship, but her main commitment was in the ADAC Procar. De Villota finished an impressive third in the overall standings after taking one win and seven podiums.
She contested one round of Euroseries 3000 in 2008, scoring a creditable points finish.
